About WP Stress

My name is Álvaro Góis dos Santos and I was born in Lisbon, Portugal. I now live in Entroncamento, a small town in the centre of Portugal. I have two kids, Gabriel and Tiago.

I majored in Psychology and have worked with graphic design and desktop publishing since the 1980s. I’ve done editing, translation, proofreading, design.

In 2005 I created my own press, called ovni, dedicated to microfiction. I work with Empower, a communication agency and training school, since 2010. I also translate and review WordPress translations with WP-Translations.pro.

In 2007, I started using WordPress and joined the Portuguese WordPress Community. I joined WordPress.org the following year.

I’ve contributed to the Portuguese (pt_PT) WordPress translation, as locale manager and global translation editor, I’ve been co-organizer of several WordCamps in Portugal (Lisbon 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2023, 2025, and Porto 2013, 2016, 2018, 2024), where I also co-organized WordPress and WooCommerce workshops for initiates. I was Lead Organizer of WordCamp Lisboa 2019.

My first difficulties with WordPress were an incentive to help others. I’ve started WPlearn.it training workshops with Zé Fontainhas, and, after that, WP Stress training sessions.

This website was to be a support to those sessions and also an opportunity to write about WordPress (in English, which isn’t my native language, so, also a time to train my English skills).

I’m passionate about the flexibility and plasticity of WordPress, and how it empowers regular users to build there online presence. I praise the merits of community collaboration as the most advanced and sustainable form of intellectual and creative development.
